Charlie Marley

For Grown-ups

charliemarley.com is a games-and-activities site for readers of The Adventures of Charlie Marley. It has no accounts, no ads and no tracking cookies. Here is everything the site collects, in plain language.

What kids can send us

Where on the siteWhat gets sent
"You're the Inventor!" formThe invention's name (up to 60 characters) and what it does (up to 240 characters).
"Got a better idea? Send to Emma"A story idea (up to 80 characters).
Vote for the next adventureWhich sports moment they picked. One vote per device; changing the vote replaces it.

Each form asks kids to use first names only and not to share a last name, school or address. Nothing else is asked for: no email, no age, no photo.

What is stored, and where

Submissions are saved in files on our web host (Spaceship), in a folder that the public cannot open, and a copy is emailed to our private inbox, info@charliemarley.com. Each one is saved with the date and a short random code that identifies the device, not the child. To stop people from flooding the forms, the site briefly keeps a scrambled (hashed) version of the visitor's internet address for one minute. Like most websites, the web host also keeps standard server logs.

What stays on your child's device

Game progress (points, rank, badges, best scores, which questions were already seen, which characters they met, their vote) and the name typed on the Pilot's Wings certificate are saved in the browser's local storage on that device only. They are never sent to us. The site also saves a random device code (cm-uid) so a vote can be changed instead of counted twice. Clearing the browser's site data erases all of it.

Who sees submissions

Only the author, Andrew Luria, through a password-protected page and the info@charliemarley.com inbox. Submissions are not shown to other visitors and are never sold or shared. Andrew may read favorite inventions or ideas aloud or feature them, by invention name only.

Other websites we link to

Bookstore buttons, the coloring contest form and PayPal open other companies' websites, which have their own privacy policies. The page's fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives the visitor's internet address when the page loads.

Asking for removal

Email info@charliemarley.com with the invention name or idea your child sent and roughly when. We will delete it.
